DVM

Luke Runnion

  • Luke is a 2012 graduate of Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation he practiced for 4 years in rural mixed practice, before spending 2 years at an equine referral and surgical center in Montana. In June of 2018, he moved back to Maple Creek and opened Creekside Veterinary Service. Luke spends most of his time at work split between bovine and equine cases. Since expanding clinic facilities with the addition of the equine facility, he has been able to focus on advanced equine dentistry, equine lameness with a focus on diagnostic imaging, medical management of wounds, septic joints and tendon sheaths. He is always learning and seeking out opportunities to expand his skill set - which in turns means he is always adding to the list of professional services he offers.

  • Luke is a past member of the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association’s Practice Standards Committee, where he represented the interests of rural large animal veterinarians and practices in discussions on provincial regulations.

    Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Montana, Luke maintains memberships with the American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISLEP), and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.

    He also volunteers professionally through his involvement with Spotlight: Equine Vet Practice in Canada, an initiative dedicated to promoting sustainability and long-term careers in equine medicine. Known for his willingness to pitch in—whether it’s assisting with complex cases, sharing knowledge at educational events, or lending a hand to a fellow vet—Luke is passionate about supporting his colleagues and serving the ranching community he calls home.

  • In his spare time Luke enjoys fishing, hunting, working on his old Ford, and spending time with his family.

DVM

Traci Henderson

  • Dr. Henderson grew up outside Gainsborough, SK. on her family's farm where she spent most of her time helping with the cattle. Traci graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She spent the first 2 years of her career working at Deep South Animal Clinic in Omega, SK. before moving to Maple Creek. During her time there she worked on all creatures large and small, but developed key interests in companion animal surgery, cow/calf herd health, and bovine obstetrics.

  • Traci is currently serving as the Committee Chair for the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medicine Association's Professional Conduct Committee. This committee investigates, and reviews all official complaints against SVMA Members, an important step in being a self regulating body.

    Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan, Traci also holds memberships with Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. Traci took home the SVMA Young Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2023, well deserved recognition.

  • In her spare time she enjoys curling, and working in her yard - particularly mowing the grass.

Veterinary Assistant

Shaylee Sommerfeld

  • Shaylee joined Creekside Veterinary Service in the summer of 2022, bringing with her experience in both the hospitality and healthcare industries. Combined with her background in agriculture and equine work, she was a natural fit for our team.

  • When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll often find Shaylee in the barn with the mares and foals or chasing after the newest two-legged family member, Riggs. She also enjoys helping her husband, Lane, with custom branding jobs throughout the area.

Office Manager

Roxanna White

  • Roxanna joined the team in the summer of 2022 and has a diverse background in administration. She has taken over a large portion of reception and inventory duties and you will find her jumping in wherever she is needed.

  • When not at work she keeps busy ranching in the Cypress Hills, or running to visit her grandchildren.

Practice Manager

Kyla Runnion

  • Kyla obtained her Bachelors of Science in Animal Science, Education and Biology from Montana State University in 2010 while on athletic scholarship. After teaching full-time for several years, and helping Luke out at the clinic during evenings and weekends, she made the transition to being at the clinic everyday. You will find her a little bit of everywhere at the clinic keeping things organized and moving along smoothly.

  •  If she has free time she enjoys riding her horses, and spending time outside with her family, but truthfully most of her time outside of work is spent being Uber Mom to Rhett and Quinnley.

We are a bovine and equine focused mixed animal practice located in Southwest Saskatchewan,  While we might be located rurally, our team has worked diligently to pursue continuing education learning opportunities and increase our in-clinic diagnostic and treatment capabilities. We believe that "rural" does not mean antiquated. Creekside takes a team-based approach to medicine, and collaboration is just part of what makes us unique. Locally owned and operated we enjoy the freedom to tailor treatment plans to owners preference, goals, and budget. We also believe in giving back to our local communities through event sponsorship and volunteering.
